(Read the Icelandic version here...)
It seems to be time to address the issue with IcelandFurZ from the top. Some might have been wondering what the heck has been going on with the various IcelandFurs social media accounts over the past year. We have been avoiding having to bring attention to this particular external drama. New development has changed this.
It was initially called IceFurCabin, an annual cabin trip event that the members of IcelandFurs have participated in. A former member of the group hosted the event and decided to take it with them when they left the group to form a new group around it under the IceFurCabin.is website.
We have nothing against there existing other local furry groups, especially more events. We are even open to the idea for being affiliates to advertise each other.
Soon we noticed that old social media accounts that used to belong to IcelandFurs were changing their display name to IceFurCabin and started advertising the event and their new site.

IceFurCabin becomes IcelandFurz
After the event had passed that year, the IceFurCabin.is was replaced by IcelandFurZ.org with the following text on the front page "IceFurCabin is also IcelandFurz, a new group".
Social media accounts that had initially been changed to be IceFurCabin were now again changed to IcelandFurZ.
Then they started to tell people to avoid IcelandFurs and join their IcelandFurZ group since it was better and free of drama according to them. They did not want people to confuse the groups together since one of them had a Z at the end of the name.
IcelandFurz is not the IcelandFurs group
Despite previous actions, IcelandFurZ started to claim that they were actually the real IcelandFurs group. It was ongoing for a while. They even created a new facebook page with paid advertising campaign to convince people.
They later made an announcement, in 10. March 2026, that they were now officially the IcelandFurs groups because they just registered the name 'IcelandFurs' as a trademark. They went as far as trying to convince our hosting provider to hand over our domain, without going through us.
IcelandFurs™ trademark is unrelated to the IcelandFurs group
We were not notified of the trademark registration until after the opposition deadline had passed, when they reached out to us with the offer to join our groups together if we wanted to keep on using the name, we declined because we had not lost our name.
Since the trademark only applies to business, and the IcelandFurs group does not do business, then this trademark has no effect on the group at the moment.
We have been functioning under the name IcelandFurs since 2009 and have become well known in our circles as a local furry group. We have even had the IcelandFurs domain since 2013 and been using it to provide Icelandic information about the hobby.
They were well aware of the existence of this group since they played the role of leader of IcelandFurs for a while. They announced their resignation in the local news paper in 2019 that resulted in a published interview with Myra Midnight with the headline "New Foreman of Furry".
The latest announcements from IcelandFurz has been to declare that IcelandFurs is a general term for Icelandic Furry, which makes it too generic to have been permitted to register as a trademark to begin with.

We hope this explains something about the situation and we sincerely hope that they manage to create a new and peaceful group that does not continue to intentionally conflict with IcelandFurs.
